School Counselors use the guidance curriculum reach most students during scheduled classroom visits. Some students will experience developmental or situational barriers that are best addressed during individual or small group sessions with the counselor. The purpose of school counseling is to assist students with developmental problems and/or situational problems that with limited sessions can help the child "get back on the right track." School Counselors are unable to provide involved counseling or therapy due to the large number of students served and the programmatic demands of school counseling. If therapy is needed, School Counselors will help connect parents with resources in the community to better meet the needs of their student.
